  • Meet Shawna

Certified Yamuna Body Rolling Instructor, Massage, CranioSacral, & Thai Yoga Therapist

I offer my clients a natural approach pain management, stress reduction, and body-sustainability. My mission is to support people seeking health, life-balance, and a deep connection to their capacity for self-repair and restoration. I aim to provide authentically therapeutic experiences, meeting clients with skill and acceptance.

I am the daughter of a nurse-midwife-healer-teacher, and a scientist-architect-artist-builder…my earliest formative influences. For most of my life I’ve been fascinated by the intersections of mind, body, and spirit. My journey into bodywork began as a teen...curiously studying anatomy, dance, yoga, breath, and meditation. I sharpened this focus with professional degrees in Health Promotion & Wellness Education (1997) and Advanced Clinical Massage & Bodywork (1998).

After a decade offering traditional massage, my focus shifted to myo-fascial release techniques. I added new specialties in Thai Yoga Bodywork, CranioSacral Therapy (CST), and Yamuna Body Rolling (YBR). In my career, I've served in spas, holistic health and fitness centers, trained massage therapists, taught injury prevention, and helped 1000's of clients feel better in their bodies. I love helping others to deepen body-awareness and source healing from within.

During sessions, I attentively listen to the body's subtle signals to locate tension. I consider myself a 'body whisperer'...holding space for the body to recharge, release, and re-align. I believe in educating clients about their bodies, self-care, and healthy self-reliance. I'm immensely grateful to share my passion and help others find more freedom, ease, and comfort. I continue to learn through my own self-care, assisting clients, teaching, and ongoing professional study.

    The Sacred Spiral

Inspired by the prevalence of spirals in nature and the human body, I seek to connect people with their innate patterns of order and balance. Spirals are nature’s most utilized building block, and an ancient symbol in nearly every culture. They represent movement, growth and evolution, the balance of opposites, and the slow reveal of hidden forces that govern form and function. Galaxies, whirlpools, tornadoes, DNA, and fetal development are all expressions of life's awe-inspiring and sacred spiral.

  • Praise

“Shawna...thank you so much for helping me to recover from ten months of 2-3 hour DAILY seizures. After a head injury from a car accident 30 years ago, I was diagnosed with epilepsy and complex seizure disorder, which affected my ability to read, work, and drive. Initially, I was skeptical about Craniosacral therapy, but after going 10 days without a seizure (after my 2nd session), I knew it was helping. I have not had another seizure since then! Regular CST has improved my energy and endurance levels, allowing me to return to work and help my husband with yard work again. Thank you for helping me to better understand my body and to reclaim my life!” ~ Helen D. of Marietta

"I run marathons and saw Shawna after being diagnosed with a herniated disc in my neck. I'd previously tried cortisone injections and physical therapy, with only moderate improvement. I felt much better after a single session with Shawna. After two more sessions in the following weeks I continued to improve. I felt nearly 100% after the third session and have returned to normal running. I highly recommend Shawna for her work." ~ Matt W., athlete, Marietta

"I just want to follow up to let you know that I'm totally into Yamuna Body Rolling! I enjoyed your class and was very impressed with your knowledge. Your examples and demonstration really helped me understand what was happening in my body. I'm grateful that you introduced me to this wonderful art. This morning I did a routine...it felt so good I really didn’t want to stop. After a week of consistently using the balls, I notice I can now go deeper into my yoga poses, and an opening in my shoulders and hamstrings. I've done it every morning (sometimes again in the evening) and can now do things I was previously unable to. My range of motion is so much better."

    ~ Joanne F. of Marietta

"I had a bulging disk in my low back. I had major pain could hardly walk, nor could I stand up straight. After one session with Shawna, I could stand up straight. Thank you!!!!!" ~ Elizabeth E., massage therapist, Kennesaw

"I have been seeing Shawna for Craniosacral for the past three years. Shawna's gifted touch takes my mind and body to such a deep state of relaxation. I consistently come away from sessions feeling in balance and at ease; often with relief from physical or mental discomforts. I have sent family members for her work, and receive regular reports of healing, balance and relief. Shawna has also provided therapy for some of my psychotherapy clients and my yoga and meditation students. Her touch is a powerful experience and I highly recommend it." ~ Lynn W., counselor/yoga/meditation teacher, Marietta

Receiving sessions from Shawna is a consistently positive experience, during which I feel great benefit and changes through her skillful, intuitive touch. Although I am young and healthy, I seek assistance in keeping my body at its full potential. I am passionate about the body’s unlimited capacity to heal from the inside out. CST addresses that innate ability in a powerful way by bringing the body back into a alignment with its natural rhythms. Shawna honors this journey, as I know she will honor yours.

~ Daniel C., chiropractic student, Marietta

"I had a nasty neck/headache that had lasted over 6 days. I tried advil, stretching, chiropractic, all to no avail. I finally called Shawna and got a session and WOW! Soooo much better! I highly recommend!!!" ~ Ben E., teacher, Woodstock

"I've found through my CST sessions with Shawna, I'm able to more effectively manage my Multiple Sclerosis symptoms. After a session, I feel more in touch with my body and the often strange and unexplainable sensations that occur. I am able to find fluidity in areas that are chronically tense and painful. Shawna intuitively works to regulate my craniosacral flow so that I can easier find balance and peace. At the end of my session, I feel relaxed and much of my chronic pain has dissipated. I am thankful that I am able to work with her and this therapy!" ~ Mollie S. of Sandy Springs

"I had surgery many years ago and since that time, I've needed hands-on therapy at my surgical site every 2-3 weeks. When I found Shawna 3 years ago, she instinctively knew what my body needed. Shawna has an intuitive side to her; her hands and her soul know where to go and how to "read" your body. I am grateful for Shawna...she is worth it!" ~ Amy R. of Marietta

  • CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle form of touch that works with the fluid around the brain and spinal cord, as well as the web of connective tissues throughout the body (fascia). It helps amplify your natural healing response...to unwind tension, reduce pain, speed recovery, and improve function. CST is complex to explain, but essentially, it induces deep relaxation in the brain/nervous system, which supports the 'rest and repair' functions of the body.

CST takes place on a massage table, fully-clothed. During treatment, I use a gentle touch (at various locations) to follow your CranioSacral rhythm, which reveals tension patterns in your body. Wherever the rhythm feels weak or imbalanced, I apply gentle guiding techniques to improve alignment and energy flow to areas that have fallen out of sync. Recipients of CST commonly report sensations of...

    • tension release; lengthening/softening of tissues
    • re-alignments and postural improvements
    • centering and grounding
    • deep, meditative calm for mind/body/emotions
    • easier movement
    • reduced pain
    • expanded body awareness

Many people use CST for stress reduction and to boost health and immune function. For specific or chronic health concerns, understand that tension patterns take time to build and need time to release...especially if they've been active for years (or decades)! A series of 3 to 5 sessions generally ensures progress, and will indicate if continued treatment is warranted.

    What Can CranioSacral Help With?

    • Acute and chronic aches/pains; clearing inflammation

    • Migraines and headaches

    • Stress, anxiety, and depression

    • Motor-coordination impairments

    • Infant/childhood disorders (birth trauma, autism, ADD/ADHD...)

    • Brain/spinal cord injuries (concussion, neuropathy, stroke...)

    • Nervous system issues (MS, tremors, Parkinson's, Bell's Palsy...)

    • Chronic and Adrenal Fatigue syndromes

    • Post-injury and post-surgical conditions

    • Jaw, dental, and orthodontic concerns

    • Prenatal and postpartum transitions

    • Insomnia and restless mind

    • Emotional concerns (grief, loss, healing crisis, PTSD...)

    • Structural imbalances (scoliosis, posture/alignment issues)

    ...and many others

  • Thai Yoga Bodywork

“Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind" ~ Bruce Lee

Thai Yoga Bodywork (nicknamed 'Lazy man's yoga'), it is a series of slow rhythmic compressions to muscles and energy pathways in the body, followed by gentle passive stretching. Slowly and smoothly, the body is relieved of tension and restrictions, creating an energized calm. By opening up the energy pathways, our life-force energy can freely circulate, improving your health, mood, and well-being. Flexibility is NOT a requirement to enjoy Thai Yoga...I meet the body where it's at! Thai Yoga is performed on a cushioned floor mat, with the recipient wearing loose, comfortable clothing. Avoid a heavy meal 1-2 hours before your session.

    Thai Yoga Bodywork helps you...

    • Increase flexibility and vitality
    • Alleviate pain and stiffness
    • Find peace and deep relaxation
    • Reduce stress and anxiety
    • Enhance your immune system and body-wisdom
    • Speed recovery from injury; safeguard against injury
    • Improve circulation to organs, muscles, and the skin
    • Integrate your body, mind, emotions, and spirit

In Thailand, this practice is called "Nuad Bo-Rarn", which means "ancient healing way". Thai Yoga bodywork traces it's origins back about 2,500 years. It was carried from India to Thailand by traveling monks who had knowledge of yoga, aryuvedic, and Chinese medicine. These influences were eventually blended with Thai indigenous healing, and practiced in sacred temples.

  • Yamuna Body Rolling (YBR)

Be your own 'body expert' with Yamuna Body Rolling!

"The beauty of Yamuna Body Rolling is that it takes you from the origin of the muscle at the tendon, elongating the muscle while stimulating the bone and soft tissue. Working with the body’s own gravity, the exercises ease movement in the muscles to the point of relaxation, offering one of the finest weight-bearing exercises, with the benefits of a deep self-massage." – Ms. Fitness Magazine

Unlike other styles of body-rolling, Yamuna (ya-mah-nah) Body Rolling is 'restorative fitness' that liberates your movement, heals and prevents injury, and protects your joints and spine from common wear and tear. It uses specialized, inflatable therapy balls to work like a massage therapist’s hands. They strategically provide traction and pressure to iron out tension and pain in all areas of the body. Most people say YBR feels like a relaxing, deep tissue massage...the pressure and depth can be adapted to personal preference. Even those with injuries, physical limitations, or advanced age can benefit from using the balls. Yamuna muscle release routines can be modified for use in a chair, in bed, and on a wall or floor space. Yamuna balls reach into areas that foam rollers cannot, and are much more versatile and comfortable to use.

    • relieve pain, tension, and restriction
    • improve alignment and create openness in joints
    • elongate muscles and decompress the spine
    • increase flexibility and muscle tone
    • build a lengthened and toned core
    • relieve stress and promote self-healing
    • prevent injury and repetitive stress

Shawna offers a range of YBR classes, workshops, and private lessons to help you release habitual tension patterns and develop problem solving skills for your body. Instruction covers YBR theory, safety, and simple routines for each body part...using a ball, gravity, and your body weight to precisely target muscle and bone. Having a YBR self-care practice brings relaxation, renewed energy, and a better understanding of how to sustain your body in alignment, freedom, and ease. As pro-active health maintenance, YBR can spare you the suffering and expense of injury, surgery, missed work, doctor visits, lost vitality and quality of life.
